Essex Cement Port Newark, NJ

Brennan Industrial Contractors has just completed the erection of all structural and "access" steel as well as material handling equipment associated with four 200 ft. high, "cloverleaf" pattern, slip form, paired concrete storage silos at Port Newark, NJ.

The new cement terminal makes it possible for safer ship bourn-deliveries by employing state of the art pneumatic transfer from ship-to-silo, coupled with the most advanced dust collection system for silo-to-truck transfer. Not only does the terminal comply with the most stringent of EPA and Port Authority standards, but it provides the greatest possible efficiency in delivering the terminal's massive 62,000 ton capacity (the largest on the East Coast) to clients in the NY/NJ metropolitan area.

During the nine month installation, Brennan field-fabricated and "full-pen" welded over 300 tons of various conic section steel plate to assist in the installation of the hopper cones. Brennan designed a prototype hydraulic strand-jack system that clear-spanned the silos to lift and precisely set the upper conic sections (weighing over 75,000 lbs. each) to an 80' elevation within each silo ring beam.
This project was completed prior to start-up milestones and under budget.
